MOVIES FORMAT
This 16mm movie projector has little value nowadays. 16mm films are very hard
to find. Worth to note that 16mm films have a much longer life than 35mm films.
The 16mm films can last more 60 years if properly stored.
The 35mm movies can be classified into normal format (ฟิล์ม35มมดำ) and
gold format (ฟิล์ม35มมทอง). Normal format can last around
40 years if properly stored.
Nowadays VHS tapes have no more value. It is worth 2 or 3 baht. Collectors looking for rare
films released in VHS but never in VCD/DVD have to buy whole stock from former VHS stores
in order to assume their passion.
Every ten years, movies format is changing. It started
with 16mm film, 35mm film, VHS, VCD, DVD, Blue-ray...
Nowadays old Thai movies have no value. A DVD with 3 old Thai movies is sold at 30 bath.
No surprise as recent movies (less than 10 years movie) are sold 10 baht per vcd.
Many movies can be found free of charge under YouTube.
In 1972 most theaters in Bangkok shift to 35mm
projectors. Due to provincial theaters (โรงหนังต่างจังหวัด),
outdoor theaters (หนังเร่), "movies to sell drugs"
(หนังขายยา) not using 35mm projectors as they were
still expensive, 16mm copies still have to be given to them during a few years.
MOVIES MISCELLANEOUS

Nowadays people can watch movies trailers at home or on their smartphone through YouTube.
Thai cinema was a big money business. Theaters were movies palaces.
Average movie budget was 350,000 USD to 1M USD. 50% of the budget was spent on the movie shooting.

The full story was narrated on the radio but people still wanted to see the movies in
order to see how the story will be shown on the golden screen!
The remaining 50% of the budget was spent on advertisement such as huge billboards.

Some Thai posters would intensify things beyond what actually happened in the movie.
Drawing posters was an art. Piak Poster (เปี๊ยก โปสเตอร์)
began as a painter of movie posters, so earning the pseudonym that
stuck even after he became a famous director. ทองดี is another famous
movie posters painter.
Nowadays movie posters have high value among collectors. Depending on rarity, it

Many Thai movies are lost, especially movies from decades 1950s, 1960s
and 1970. Sometimes the only reminder of the movie is the poster!
