The place called "WAT KHAEK" (วัดแขก) or "SALA KAEW KOO" is located in Nong Khai area. This unique place contains an amazing park. Giant 35 metres tall effigies of Buddha, Shiva, Ganesh, and virtually every other deity known to oriental religions dominate the landscape.
"SALA KAEW KOO" (ศาลาแก้วกู่)
is about 3 km. from Nong Khai on the
"Nong Khai - Phon Phi Sai" road. It is an unique place with numerous sculptures
according to Buddhist, animist and Brahmanic beliefs.

"LUANG PU BUN LEUA SURIRAT" (หลวงปู่บุญเหลือสุรีรัตน์)
in 1976. He has fled Laos
after the 1975 communist victory.
"LUANG PU BUN LEUA SURIRAT" is not a Buddhist monk.

"SALA KAEW KOO" is not a Buddhist temple. There is no monks
in saffron robe inside. The hall for sermons and the garden contain
many statues mixing Buddhist, animist and Brahmanic influences.

"LUANG PU BUN LEUA SURIRAT" died in
1997. He was 84 years old.
His statues' architecture is unique in all Asia.

A restoration society was established to ensure that the temple grounds are well maintained and the statues kept free of mould and in good state.
Many statues have been paid by donations to "LUANG PU BUN LEUA SURIRAT".
and were built in 1977 and 1978.
During all his life, "LUANG PU BUN LEUA SURIRAT" added new statues to his temple.

"SALA KAEW KOO" is a very green place with many plants.
Green plants are sold there. Money is used to take care about
"SALA KAEW KOO". There is also a small entrance fee.

"SALA KAEW KOO" contains two big pools.
Many huge cat fishes are living there. Visitors can buy bread and
fish food to feed the cat fishes. Their size is really impressive.
Feeding animals in a temple is considered as a good Buddhist deed.

In Vientiane, capital of Laos, there is a similar Religion park.
"LUANG PU BUN LEUA" has built this garden,
called "Wat Xieng Khuan", in Laos. He has fled Laos
after the 1975 communist victory.
