Thai movie จันดารา ปัจฉิมบท - The Finale was released in year 2013 and lasts 2 hours. Jan and Ken flee to Phichit. Back to Phichit, Jana identifies that he is not a child issued from a rape but through a common agreed relationship. He learns the truth through his grandmother and a former policeman. Twenty years ago, the grandmother had no choice but to accept the conditions given by Khun Luang (สัตว์นรก) in order to marry Dara. Ken gets married and has a child. Jan keeps sending letters to Aisin. In Bangkok, Kaew continues to misbehave with men. She also starts a relationship with Krajon, the son of Bee. When Bee and Khun Luang are back from Singapore, Kaew and Krajon announce to them that they want to get married as Kaew is 3 months pregnant. The wedding is impossible as Krajon is the hidden son of Khun Luang with Bee. Bee never told the truth to them. Khun Luang has a serious attack. To solve this mess, Khun Luang has no choice but to ask Jan to marry Kaew. Per his grandmother's orders, Jan accepts but Khun Luang has to give back all the family belongings (land, house, company) that he took 20 years ago. Jan visits Aisin but she just died from disease. Jan is heart broken. Kriengkrai Unhanan is invited to the wedding of Jan and Kaew. Kaew keeps calling him Ai Jan (ไอ้จัน). Bee and Jan become lovers. Kaew is about to deliver her child (เด็กอัปรีย์). Being older, the child is identified as retarded. Jan wishes to have a child with Bee but she is now sterile. Khun Luang, seeing Jan and Bee making love, has another attack and becomes fully paralyzed. Aunt Nawat goes back to Phichit. Bee refuses to make love to Jan anymore as she was doing it only to protect Khun Luang. There was no real love with Jan. Upset, using a mask to hide his face, Jan rapes Kaew and hits Khun Luang with a whip. Ken also decides to leave for Pichit as Jan has become unlivable. War happens in Bangkok. US planes send bombs. Khun Krajon saves Khun Jan's life and dies. Khun Luang also dies. Kaew becomes a Tom, following Jan's aggression. Bee decides to leave the house. Kaew is pregnant with Jan. Complaining that Bee leaves her with Jan, Kaew gets suicide by jumping from high floor as she doesn’t want to give a child to Jan. Jan ends up alone and never marries again.

While Phi Mak (Mario Maurer) is fighting as a soldier, his wife Nak dies during advanced pregnancy. Phi Mak is back with his four friends to Phra Khanong area. Mak doesn't know his wife is dead, neither his friends. People in the market refuses to sell to Mak anything. His friends understand the villagers are afraid of Nak, who is now a ghost. One of the friends, Chin, sees Nak extending her arm to catch a lemon fallen from the kitchen located on the first floor of the house. Mak's friends are trying to find stratagems to inform him without raising attention from Nak. Villagers who warned Mak are found dead. Upset by his friends behavior towards Nak, Mak is chasing them away. Friends want Mak to be aware. The four friends get confused and believe Mak is the ghost (ผี) and Nak is still an human. Finally realising their mistake, they end up in a Thai Buddhist temple but the monk is unable to protect them. Finally love is stronger (รักพี่มากมากๆ รักนากหนัก). Nak did nothing wrong as she just wants to stay with Mak but everybody tries to break their love. Nak and Mak stay together despite death showing that their love is stronger (รักไม่ธรรมดา). Thai movie Phi Mak (พี่มาก..พระโขนง) is a mix of light scary sequences, romance and comedy. It got the highest revenue in Thai movies history with more than 800M bath so making it the most ever popular Thai movie. It was even released in other Asian countries such as Hong Kong or Macau. Despite having been released for 15 times already, this new 2013 version features modern jokes, Mak as central character instead of Nak, Nak not being an evil spirit and a different ending. It is done as a movie for the whole family. The ending is more surprising and more romantic than the previous versions. Normally ghosts and humans cannot stay together so a monk always convinced Nak to rebirth in another life. Past reconstitution includes black teeth for actors.

Thai movie จันดารา ปฐมบท / Jan Dara The Beginning was released in year 2012 and lasts 2 hours. It features a beautiful picture as usual with director Pantewanop Tewakul. Khun Wang's wife, called Dara, just died during delivery. Khun Wang promises to remain single for the rest of his life. Nawat (Bongkoj Kongmalai) is the nurse hired to take care of the son. After 100 days of mourning, Khun Wang starts to behave very badly (สกปรก, ลามก) with women in his house. Nawat becomes his mistress. She is then pregnant. Khun Wang teaches his daughter Kaew to despise Jan (ไอ้จันทร์), who caused the death of Dara during pregnancy. Khun Wang hits him badly for this (ไม่ต้อง เที่ยง). Many years have passed. In year 1932, Jan (Mario Maurer) meets Aisin. Aisin has same face as his mother Dara. Ken (Chaiyapol Pupart) is Jan's close friend (เพื่อน รัก) and is a servant in their home. The movie happens same time as end of full monarchy in Thailand. Jan is a hard worker student and is not interested by girls. Since childhood, Jan and Ken have seen the father's depravation. Ken wishes to initiate Jan with women. He uses his girlfriend Soi (เปิดบริสุทธ์) to corrupt him. Aisin's father is played by Phongphat Wachirabanjong. Old lover Boonluang from Singapore comes to stay in Khun Wang's home. She has a handsome son, a young officer. Nawat is of course upset. Only Nawat protects Jan. Jan is looking for his sketch book so has to go to Boonluang room. She doesn't have the book anymore. It is with Kaew. Kaew, seeing the book, has dirty ideas so forces Ken to attach her and to make love to her. Jan misunderstands and believes it is a rape so he hits Ken. When Khun Wang goes home, he wishes to kill Ken. Jan opposes saying he is the one, who raped Kaew. Kaew also agrees this way. Khun Wang wishes to kill Jan and shouts that Jan is a son of robber (โจร) and not his own son. During the confusion, a domestic helper is killed as Nawat and Boonluang prevent Khun Wang to shoot Jan. Nawat is Jan's aunt and tells him the truth of her mother being raped by a robber many years ago. The mother, pregnant, had to marry with Khun Wang to hide the shame. Jan and Ken leave Khun Wang's home.

Friends never die - มึง-กู เพื่อนกันจนวันตาย is a 2012 movie about friendship and love. Kan (Mario Maurer) is the tough guy leader of a teen gang (ว่ายรุ่น) in Chiang Mai. He is the son of a rich businessman who is always in meeting and who believes love to his son is enough filled with money. His parents have never time for him. The movie features two couples, i.e. Song and Tidiu, Nem and Kan. They are all students. Song is accepted in Kan's group as he plays well football (เพื่อนกัน). Song has no friends. He went to Chiang Mai to avoid his mother dictatorship. A romance starts with Tidiu but it causes jealousy with other students. A misunderstanding happens between Song and Tidiu. Meanwhile Nem refuses to speak to Kan anymore as she still believes her brother died because of his friendship with Kan. She finally understands that Kan tried to help her brother involved in drug trafficking but it was too late. Kan has compensated his parents' lack of love with his friends. Following an argument with a daughter of a rich local notable, Kan's friend gets seriously beaten. Kan and his friends do their best to rescue him even if they are outnumbered. This increases their friendship. During New Year’s Eve, Kan is deadly stabbed but refuses to tell his friends as he has promised a date and refuses to break promise. Song remembers Kan's advice, i.e. boys shall win but not die so he doesn't slain the one who deadly injured Kan. Despite Kan’s departure, his inspiration stays with Song forever. This teen movie features heartthrob actor Mario Maurer and features feelings related to love / friendship (มีแฟนอย่าลืมเพื่อน).

Thai movie บางกอกกังฟู / Bangkok Kung Fu / Bangkok Assassins lasts 1h40mn and was released in year 2011. Child trafficking happens and some children are used as beggar. As children rebel, one of them is made blind (ตาบอด), another gets his tongue cut, another one becomes retarded as his head is hit severely, one of them is made deaf. An old Chinese man (อาจารย์) helps them to flee. 15 years have passed. They took refuge in Wat Tham Seua in Kanchanaburi. Pong (Arak Amornsupasiri), who is mute (ใบ้), left them 3 years ago. He is now a hitman. He has a girlfriend but Pong cannot speak properly as his tongue was cut. Kaya, rescued before by the teacher, still loves Pong since childhood but this love is not reciprocal. Some ruffians are looking to take revenge over the Chinese master. Jit is blind but he is a serious fighter as all of them have been trained by the Chinese master. Even Na (Mario Maurer) wishes to be trained but the master is reluctant as he is afraid he will not be able to master his skills as he is retarded. The teacher is killed by a mysterious man wearing a monkey mask. Na is hurt also. All of them wish to revenge their master (รังแกอาจารย์). They finally find the thugs, who are using children as beggars, and kill them. Meanwhile the ruffians’ leader captures Kaya and plans to eat her heart to get her special power transmitted by the Chinese master. The four friends succeed to defeat the ruffians’ leader but Jit loses their life.

A young monk Anoon goes to visit his father as wandering monk (พระธุดงค์). He recalls his life while walking home. He remembers his twin brother, Anan, whose wife died while delivering a baby. He wishes to disrobe (สึก) as he lost abilities to find answers to people regarding life. While wandering in the forest, he meets a noble couple on horse and palanquin. The husband is found later dead in the forest. Bandit Singkham is caught. Before being sentenced, he narrates the story. Bandit (โจรป้า) Singkham, seeing the beautiful lady in the palanquin, wishes to have her becoming his wife so he needs to get rid of the husband Khun Seuk (Ananda Everingham). He claims to have some golden swords to sell. It is a trick to knock out the husband and then kills all guards. He rapes her in front of the husband and she takes pleasure at it. He doesn't kill them but the lady complains the bandit doesn't give credit to their rank (เกียรติ). Singkham finally releases the husband and offers him a duel to avenge his honor. Despite being a strong swordsman, the husband is defeated by the smart forest bandit. During the trial, the wife also narrates her story. She was the daughter of a domestic servant. Khun Seuk was fond of her because of her beauty and married her four years ago. Following the rape, Khun Seuk desigrates his wife. She is no longer worth causing her heart to broken as she is not responsible of this event. Did she kill her own husband as she claims? The tribunal uses a medium to know the truth from the spirit (ผี). Khun Seuk's wife asks bandit Singkham to take her with him and to kill Khun Seuk also (ใจดำ). Singkham refuses to do so. The wife flees. Singkham releases Khun Seuk but he cannot stop crying knowing his wife treachery. He finally kills himself. Who is telling the truth? A domestic helper Prasok passing by during the event finally tells the truth. The wife denigrates Singkham refusing to go either him or glare him. To proof his worthiness, the wife Sampai asks him to defeat Khun Seuk in a fight. Khun Seuk refuses to fight with Singkham as it is below his status. He complains his wife still remains a low level woman (ลูกคนครัว) as she accepted the rape instead of killing herself avoid him to lose face (ขายหน้า). Sampai remains alone as both men refuse to take her anymore. Both of them are not real men (ไม่ใช่ลูกผู้ชาย). Following a duel, Khun Seuk impales himself. The one getting the blade was Prasok himself to sell it to get money for his poor family. Prasok and the beggar teach the young monk a lot on humanity. The young monk finally stays in the monkhood. Movie "Kon Khon" (คนโขน) was Thailand's submission to 2012 Academy Awards. It was a controversial choice because of lack of critical acclaim and box-office success. Movie อุโมงค์ผาเมือง นางยั่วสวาท / The Outrage was not chosen as it is a remake of Akira Kurosawa's award-winning "Rashomon" (1950). “Rashomon" was translated into Thai by the statesman MR Kukrit Pramoj. The movie includes Buddhist themes related to jealousy, greed for women or for jewels, lies, human behaving like animal (สัตว์), hatred, ire, lie, lazy, simulation, cowardliness, weakness towards women cries, death, unhappiness (ความทุกข์), status of high people (ผู้ดี). Greed causes to lose finally everything.

Thai Horror comedy movie สาระแนเห็นผี was released in year 2010 and lasts 1h47mn. Doo (Mario Maurer) and his friend are out for fun in a discotheque in Bangkok. Following a misunderstanding, mafia leader Suchao Pongwilai is shot dead during an accident in the discotheque. Doo and his friend must flee. They kidnap young lady Ratree (Patcharapa Chaichua) to use her car. Ratree keeps drinking so it looks like she is heartbroken. They take refuge in a Buddhist temple. Thai Police is chasing them. Local undertaker (สัปเหร่อ) takes care of them and indicates a refuge where to go. Seua Pop (Mum Jokmok) is living there. The undertaker is a professional former hitman, so he is impressed by the young men, who dared to shoot a famous mafia leader! They receive bone powder in the eyes so they all can see ghosts now. Thai singer ศุภักษร ไชยมงคล has a small cameo role. Pop has also a strange family. They get shot at night time by an angry man. Pop and his family were in fact already dead. Surrounded by ghosts, Ratree and the two boys must flee again. Ratree meets her boyfriend (ไปกับพี่ / ไปกับผี). He is already dead also. Following an accident, his head hurt a pillar while Ratree was driving. She had hidden the body inside the car trunk. Her boyfriend, wishing to take her back, causes her car to have an accident. All are dead. Being ghosts, Ratree is now Doo’s girlfriend.

Mother Pim stays with her two teen daughters Nam and Paeng. The father is in USA and is taking care of a restaurant business. They didn't see their father for five years. The one that will get first grade in her classroom will get a ticket to New York. Nam often discusses about puppy love with her friends. Nam particularly likes Chon, a student from grade Matthayom 4 (มัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4), who is a good photographer. Nam needs inspiration through love and uses a book to find hints to get a boyfriend. She even thinks about having a colored brace as it is a teen fashion in Thailand. Nam and her best friends try to find romantic ways in order than Chon gets interest in her but Nam has to face other secondary girl students, such as sweet girl called Mamuang (มะมว่ง) that looks more mature. A funny teacher character, Inn, is played by Tukkie as a small size teacher getting interest into another male teacher but having to face other beautiful female teachers (ไม่เคยแพ้ใคร). There is similitude between Nam and her teacher, who have difficulties to find true love. Her friends decide to relook her but she looks now yellowish (ลอเล่น). Nam has to play Snow White character (เวทีละคร). She is shocked as she had a dark complexion but the make-up lady really transforms her into a really cute young lady. The show is not a success as most pupils prefer to watch the Thai traditional dance performance done by Mamuang. Anyway the teacher keeps high spirit in the performing team. Nam is nominated as major cheerleader to handle and throw the walking stick. She needs to be beautiful and agile. As first she fails but as she is challenged by other girls she fights back and succeeds. Despite her achievement, Chon still has no interest in her. Worst than that, Chon's best friend, Top, tries to seduce her. Nam has to accept him in order to be close to Chon. Finally she alienates her old friends. She finally tells Top that she doesn't love him. Nam finishes her exams at the first rank. During the last day of the school year, students sign each other shirts. Finally Nam tells Chon how much she loves him but it is too late as Chon has already a new girlfriend. Chon is selected to play football in a Thai club. Nam goes to USA to stay with her father. It is discovered that Chon loved Nam but never dares to tell her. Nine years have passed. Nam has become a successful designer. They finally become reunited on a TV show. The movie end is quite basic and without surprise as they finally get reunited. It is anyway a sweet and enjoyable movie in the range of Thai popular teen romantic movies in recent years. This movie won the award in the audience-chosen Laugh category at the Okinawa International Movie Festival. “First Love” (สิ่งเล็กๆที่เรียกว่ารัก) movie also reaps 80M Baht in 2010 in second position behind another romantic comedy “Hello Stranger” (กวน มึน โฮ).

The Buppha ghost saga continues with two new opus in 2009. In 2009, Buppha 3.1 and 3.2 were released. Lang, a teenager, can see ghosts since he is a child. He breaks up with his girlfriend as she is fed up with those ghost stories. Then he moves to a new place, the old factory building where Buppha used to live. In parallel, a little girl is always teased by her schoolmates. She fell in the stairs. When she wakes up, she is not the same. Buppha spirit is reincarnated in her body. She goes back to the building where she lived in Buppha 1 and 2. She then goes on rampage on the building residents by frightening them or killing them. Bupha either do her killings in the body of the little girl or inside the body of Buppha. In the building, there is an underground illegal casino. The comical psychic (หมอผี) Master Kong, who is now running for governor of Bangkok, tries again to chase Buppha spirit away but as usual fails. Lang meets Buppha and recognizes her as the teacher, who helped him a few years ago. He is fond of her. Nowadays Thai horror movies are either comedy comic oriented or scary oriented but Buppha is a unique mix of Thai comedy and gory horror. In such modern horror movie, ghosts are not afraid of Buddhist incantations (maybe related to numerous modern scandals in which monks were involved so they lost some respect from people and ghosts also) and especialy when those incantations are said with a hip hop trend!
