Many romantic movies related to Valentine day are released recently in Thailand. This one is “My valentine”. This movie is based on Mai’s different three love stories. Mai, a young modern woman, has no boyfriend. Valentine day is coming and she is desperate as she is still alone. Working in a life assurance company, she finally meets Mike, who is involved in charitable associations. As she needs to go to a family diner, she uses Mike to simulate her boyfriend. He requests to take care of her heart (ดูแลหัวใจ). Mike (มิค) is a busy man. He never has time in his busy agenda to meet Mai except through Skype. Flowers or dolls are sent as gifts but Mike has never time even for her birthday. He is the perfect bachelor and match but he has just no time available. Finally on New Year’s Eve he throws away his phone to have time with her. Another story pops up. A new assurance customer, Art (อาร์ท), becomes her boyfriend. He is very funny but he is very direct, is not romantic, is a cheapskate, is selfish, loves himself much more, never brings her to shopping, never holds her hand, shares bills. Her boyfriend is acting this way as he has a deception in a previous love story. The third encounter is with an old friend, Kong (ก้อง), working in highway toll booth. She dumped him four years ago. She breaks his arm by accident so she has to take care of him again. Love finally emerges as she realizes that Kong is a very nice and caring young man. Kong disappears after a while. She finally knows that he has a cancer. So all potential three boyfriends have some good qualities but each of them has also drawbacks. Who shall Mai choose? Through a final reversal she chooses Kong. This modern movie is even mixed with some Thai Japanese cartoon. The movie slogan is “Love is same as a flatulence. You cannot see it but still can feel it”. It is the same team who made the 2009 movie “Before Valentine” (ก่อนรัก หมุนรอบตัวเรา).

Song (สอง) is playing music in wedding concerts. He wishes to be a rock star so goes to Bangkok to try his luck. But his friends let him down as they have no success. He finally takes refuge in an old friend’s home. His name is Kao (ก้าว). Song was always number 2 behind Kao since birth. He is even born 5 minutes later. Song cannot go back home as he told his parents he is studying in Bangkok. Kao studies painting. Song finds a job in a local shop selling music CD. He notices a beautiful lady called Nor selling goods in front of his CD shop. She is heartbroken (อกหัก) and is looking for a way to forget. A friendship happens as Song is somebody with a very easy character (คนสบายๆ). There is a misunderstanding with Nor regarding Song as she believes he is gay. Song doesn't know how to seduce girls so Kao and the CD shop owner give him advices. Nor sees him as a friend only but Song loves her fondly. Friendship develops between them. Nor's birthday is coming. Song has prepared a song. It is finally discovered that Kao was Nor's former boyfriend! Kao made a painting of Nor and steals Song's music also. Kao gets all benefits and resumes a relationship with Nor. Song gets the torment to see their happiness. He is still the number 2 (แพ้) behind Kao. The cake prepared by Nor is not for him but for Kao's birthday. The movie features nice Thai modern songs from วงเอ็นโดรฟิน (Endorphine) and แคลอรี่ส์ บลาห์ บลาห์ (Calories Blah Blah). The relationship is becoming impossible with Kao, so Song leaves. Kao is upset with Nor as he believes Nor and Song are cheating him. Wishing to take a break, Song brings Nor to rest at his parents’ home. As Nor is pregnant, Song helps for their reconciliation. Kao and Nor finally wed. Song remains alone also but he is very proud to have brought happiness to Nor. This is true love.

The story is taking place in an old palace close to Burma. The Northern house offers a beautiful setting for the shooting. It is based on Malai Choopinij’s classic 1943 novel. A visitor is coming and hears a very sad human crying at nighttime. It is an old man, who is crying in front of a grave. The intendant of the palace tells the visitor about the sad story behind. In 1933 Sammong, stepson of the the palace owner, was back from studies done abroad. His father was Nai Hang. Nai Hang met Yupadee, a beautiful sexy modern and independent young lady and they finally married. She met Sammong. Yupadee loved freedom, always spoke directly and without any taboo. She didn’t want to be linked by any ties to Thai society. She gave Sammong books "doll house" and "the prophet" that reflected her mindset. Sammong was still single and never had any girlfriend. He enjoyed the nature only. Yupadee always teased him. They started to be closer and closer (สนิท). Nai Hang realized this. He invited some important guests, who had an eighteen years old daughter, Panthip. Yupadee was expert at creating jealousy in Sammong’s heart to test his love. The mother tried to push Panthip towards Sammong’s heart but Panthip had already a love in her heart (ต้องใช้ชีวิตของนตัวเอง). Sammong caught a malaria fever (ไข้ป้า) but Yupadee took care about him and even wiped his body (อย่าบังคับความรู้สึกของตัวเอง). Nai Hang needed to go to the city to arrange for Sammong’s wedding. Yupadee simulated to be pregnant to avoid going with him so that she could stay. At the waterfall she teased Sammong utmost so that they finally became lovers (ชู้). Sammong had become lover with his stepfather's wife (เป็นเวรเป็นกรรม). They couldn’t stand to be separated anymore and always hid. Intendant Thip and servants were aware of their relationship. Nai Hang refused to believe this extramarital story or maybe expected that Sammong's own wedding would put back everything to normal. Nai Hang went for a trip again but came back at nighttime to find the lovers. They promised to each other not to be separated until end of eternity (ชั่วฟ้าดินสลาย). Nai Hang summoned them and put them a chain linking them. It was his bad karma that his wife and son loved each other. Due to the chain the love was slowly becoming hate as they were chained together all the time. Nai Hang refused to forgive as they had done a big sin. They tried to flee but it failed as Yupadee was afraid that Sammong would dump her once they were free. Love had become hatred. Nai Hang refused to give the chain key but gave one pistol. Yupadee was now pregnant. Sammong wished to kill himself so that Nai Hang forgave Yupadee and took care of his child. But finally Yupadee shot herself. Sammong became crazy and cries every night on Yupadee’s grave. A director's cut running for 3 hours and 10 minutes, one hour longer than the theatrical version, was released end of 2010. Two other Thai movies based on the same story were done in 1956 and 1980.

A new girl student Pai arrives to university. She is not sure if her new roommate, Kaem, is a tomboy or a girl (ผู้หญิง). She would like to change the room but it is not possible. Cohabitation is not easy. Jane, another student, likes Kaem a lot. Kaem tries to win friendship from Pai. Various characters such as a ladyboy are also featured. Through her kindness, Kaem succeeds to become Pai's close friend. Both Jane and Pai start to be close to Kaem. Finally Kaem discovers that Pai has already a boyfriend called Wen (ผู้ชายมารับ). But it is more a friend than a boyfriend (แฟน) according to Pai. Some jealousy happens between Jane and Pai regarding Kaem as Pai believes Jane is boygirl with Kaem. Wen despises tomboys (ผิดธรรมชาติ). Love emerges between Kaem and Pai but Wen tries to push away Kaem as such love is not natural. Lesbian love is a rare theme in Thai movies (เรื่องของเรา). Pai is not ready to announce it widely. She is still a bit shameful. She hides all pictures when her mum visits her flat. Her mother denigrates Kaem without knowing she is Pai's closest friend. A misunderstanding between Kaem and Jane makes Pai believes Jane and Kaem are cheating her. Finally being in despair, Kaem goes to Pai's home and a difficult discussion happens with the mother. Pai rejects this relationship as she doesn't feel comfortable towards her mum, towards her friends, towards society. But finally as love is being stronger, Pai goes to Kaem's home town to be reunited with her. This romantic comedy "Yes or no" (อยากรัก ก็รักเลย) was released in year 2010. "Yes or No" Opus 2 was released in year 2012. 'Yes or No' first opus was a box office flop in Thailand. Film production cost 15M baht and box office revenue was only 15.3M baht (cinemas takes a 50% cut). In China it had a limited release. In Indonesia it was banned immediately. The movie did make lucrative business elsewhere (DVD sales, T-shirts, posters, CD soundtracks). It became a hit with regional audiences in places like Taiwan, Macau, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia despite the ban. "Yes or No" movie received awards such as Special Jury Mention Award at Festival MIX in Milan, Italy.

Yamada is a Japanese samurai living in Thailand during Ayutthaya period. This movie praises the diplomatic relationships between Thailand and Japan. Some Japanese and Thai soldiers assure the protection of King Naresuan. Yamada, following a feast in Ayutthaya former Japanese village (หมู่บ้านของชาวญี่ปุ่น), is betrayed and attacked by some Japanese ninjas led by traitor Kaito. He was about to be killed when Siamese warriors rescue him. Japanese sword skills are not enough versus Thai boxing skills! Injured, Yamada is cured in Phitsanulok. Traditional medicine, done by the local abbot (Sorapong Chatree), helps him to recover fast. Kaito sends his ninjas to find him as Yamada knows his betrayal. Local Thai people call Yamada as “white face” (หน้าขาว) or "I jipun" (ญี่ปุ่น)! The local abbot is very active to protect Ayutthaya and teaches to Thai soldiers the art (ศิลปะ) of Thai boxing (มวยไทย) with the support of strong warrior Aikham. Champa is the young lady taking care of Yamada during his recovery. Old Thai traditions are nicely shown such as eat betel, big protective tattoos on the body, charming scenes with boats and rivers (คลอง), representation of old traditions and old games. Yamada is very thankful for the cure received. So he wishes to help Ayutthaya kingdom to pay his debt back. A love story also starts with Champa. The Japanese ninjas finally find him but fail to kill him. The villagers now understand Yamada must have an important secret. Yamada wishes to learn Thai boxing but it is an art dedicated to Thai people only. He wish to become the abbot disciple (ลูกศิษย์) and convinces him by proving he is now an Ayutthaya citizen in his heart also. The training starts and despite difficulties, he is finally accepted by other Thai boxing fighters and wins their friendship. Nation love is not only for born citizen but for everybody who has it in his heart. He offers his samurai sword to Aikham (พี่น้อกัน). Following a sacred tattoo session, Yamada has now Ayutthaya blood in his veins. He is accepted inside the King’s private guards. 200 Burmese soldiers enter the Thai Kingdom. The King sends ten of his best fighters including Yamada to neutralize them. They succeed. Thematic regarding “Love the King, love the nation” is highlighted. Nationalism is often seen in Thai movies with historical theme. Yamada has to leave the Thai village and to go back to Japan but in fact he wishes to get revenge over Kaito. Yamada has to fight against 100 warriors to reach Kaito but hopefully Aikham helps him. Kaito uses a gun to shoot Yamada but Aikham is the one injured and dies. Yamada takes revenge over Kaito and stays in Thailand. It is based on the real historical character Yamada Nagamasa, who was a Japanese adventurer who gained considerable influence in Thailand at the beginning of the 17th century and became the governor of the Nakhon Si Thammarat province in southern Thailand. This movie uses many strong CGI effects to show the bloody fights. Buakaw Por Pramuk (บัวขาว ป. ประมุข), real Thai kickboxer, starred as a Thai soldier. The movie was also shown in Japan.

After the fall of Bang Rajan, a group of Thai warriors is left and settle a remote hidden village. With the help of a charismatic Buddhist abbot (หลวงพ่อ), they decide to fight back. Burmese army is looking for them. It results in embuscades. Bloody sequences with CGI similar to US movie “300”, head cuts, blood splitting on the screen are featured. This is a nationalist trend movie as Thai people cannot let Burmese army occupies their land (แผ่นดินของเรา). They all think about their life when the war will be over. Currently food is not enough in the village (ชุม) as many people take refuge there (คนเยอะ). Chatchai Plengpanich is playing a soldier (ทหาร), i.e. Phaya. His group is overwhelmed by Burmese soldiers in the forest but he gets help from the former Bang Rajan soldiers. Ayutthaya capital (กรุงศรีอยุธยา) is burning in the background. Tensions happen between soldiers and villagers (ชาวบ้าน). Burmese use some villagers through coercion to try to kill the Buddhist abbot (บารมีหลวงพ่อ). As they fail, all their relatives are killed by Burmese. Phaya asks for a revolt to end the everyday deaths. They have to choose between hide or fight. Two profiles of collaborators with Burmese are shown, a woman (being a courtesan with the Burmese leader in order to get food for her captive mother) and a slave (being passive in front of Burmese soldiers in order to save his life). The Burmese soldiers steal a huge Buddha statue from Ayutthaya to bring it back home. Thai warriors defeat the Burmese soldiers and succeed to save the Buddha statue (so huge that CGI effects have to be used). The courtesan and the slave being deceived by the Burmese change side. The spirits of Bang Rajan fighters (veteran actors from Bang Rajan movie part 1 : Vinai Kraibutr, Choomporn Theppitak, Bin Banleurit) give to the fighters additional strength. A bigger army comes. The abbot accepts to surrender to spare the villagers lives. The monk announces to the Burmese general that they will never win as long as there are warriors like Bang Rajan villagers in Thailand. The abbot is sentenced to death. The Thai warriors seem to face a too big army to be able to win. But Bang Rajan spirit is on forever. Former Thai tennis star Paradorn Srichaphan played in this movie. The movie lasts 2h02mn.

Nida is single forty years old mum. She is selling VCD at a night market. One night she brings a customer (ลูกค้า) to her home. She tells him that her teenager son, Ton, is staying in his room for 5 years without going out. On the other side of the street, a young teenager girl, Parn, is living with her mother. The mother has never time for Parn as she has a new boyfriend. Nida often visits a mystic medium (อาจารย์), who helps people to discover who they are through meditation (สมาธิ). She convinces her followers to believe in their inner force (ดูพลัง) and to think positively. Her followers shall believe that things can become true though the power of the mind (อำนาจพลังจิต). Teen are living in their world with games and internet. Nida's customer believes Ton has a Japanese own world syndrome (โลกของเขา). The customer, who is working for a TV program, wishes to meet Ton and to have him go out of his room. Ton only talks to his mother through small papers slipped under his room's door. He wishes to kill himself if somebody enters in his room. The customer is killed savagely by Ton. Ton's head cannot be seen. Parn cannot easily go out also as she cannot stand external bacteria (แพ้อากาศ). One day Nida meets Parn and convinces her to use her mind power to fight her allergy. Nida's husband died already. Ton's father was a hunter. Ton only played games. The father didn't want to hinder his son. The father was having an affair and hit Nida. Following a fight she shot him. She still has visions. The mystery about Ton erupts curiosity from the street (ซอย). A man trying to peep in his room is killed. At same time Parn assists to the death but cannot see who is in the room. The next day Parn has to go out to get her cat, which is trapped inside Ton's house. She escalates the gate and enters inside. The reality is then discovered. Nida's husband is not dead. They fought about Ton's custody (ลูกต้องอยู่กับกู). A lost bullet was shot. Ton was hit and died. Ton was only alive through Nida's power of the mind. This thriller movie has a strong influence from Japanese manga.

Thai movie ดวงอันตราย Pop Star was released in year 2010. It is available under VCD format. The movie lasts 81 mn. Nirut Sirijanya is the father and manager of a famous Thai singer called Jay. Noui (Bongkoj Kongmalai) is the assistant and the father's mistress. Noui has a child with Jay's father. Jay stopped his career for two years as his mother got suicide. He is now back to Thailand with an album full of English songs. His father always pushes him. Jay still didn't fully recover from the shock and keeps eating medicine for sleeping and crisis management. His father is very happy that they secure a 1M Baht deal. He is less worried about his son's sickness... The medicine causes Jay to have visions and nightmares. Hearing noise in his room, he is about to hit with a baseball bat an intruder. This intruder is his father coming home drunk. Before he can hit anybody, his father falls by himself from the stairs and breaks his neck. Jay falls asleep. In the morning, he believes he kills his own father. Hiding the corpse, he decides to lie to everybody. He seals the room's door, puts flowers in the room, increases the air conditioning cold temperature to prevent any bad smell. Started being out of medicine, Jay has difficulty to control himself. Noui is also under strong pressure from her mother as she keeps asking for money. The mother pushes her daughter to divorce as anyway Jay's father never took good care of her and her child. น้อง Pae is in fact Jay’s daughter. Jay kills both Pae and Noui as they found the body of the father in the hotel room. In fact, Noui was aware of the father’s death but looking for her daughter caused her demise. A หมอดู told her to be careful… Jay tries to continue his professional life same as usual, but he is finally arrested as a domestic helper finds the bodies while cleaning the room.

In 2013 a nuclear plant construction is ongoing in Chumphon. Elections will happen soon. The candidate to be prime minister promises to stop the plant. The Thai society is getting worst and worst with many aggression and drug trafficking. As government cannot stop this, it is time for citizen to handle by themselves. Three years have passed. The nuclear plant construction is almost finished and nuclear opponents have been chased away. Young lady Wassana tries to convince her former boyfriend, now prime minister, to do something but he refuses. He argues that destruction of country side (เสียสละ) is needed for the welfare of the whole country (ประโยชน์ชาติ). He also acknowledges that he lied to be elected. Meanwhile police is investigating on a mysterious man called "Insee Daeng" as a group of drug dealers have been found violently butchered. Insee Daeng also enters in a senator house and kills him violently. The senator was always bringing underage girls to his home. If the Thai police and the law cannot perform properly their duty, then Insee Daeng will have to intervene. Insee Daeng is a modern justiciary hero fighting against corrupted men. A policeman called Chat wishes to catch him. Rom, young man, is “Insee Daeng”. He got a bullet in the brain and needs to take morphine often to ease the pain. Wassana knows him as she helped him to escape before. A mysterious organisation, a group of masked men (การเมืองเลว), want to get rid of Insee Daeng and recruits a dangerous assassin to kill him. Chat, the policeman, is assigned to protect a corrupted businessman. It turns bad in a nightclub. There is impressive shooting in Bangkok, dark and modern city and an epic fight with the assassin on a billboard and inside a department store. On top of this Chat and SAWT forces are chasing him. The corrupted prime minister, who got his campaign paid by the nuclear plant company, needs to prevent any stop of the construction by getting rid of the opponents to the project including his former girlfriend Wassana. Rom and Chat know each other as Rom was previously a policeman but Chat is unaware that Rom and Insee Daeng are the same man. A team of bikers try to kill Wassana but Insee Daeng helps her on time. The prime minister is the head of the cabal. Despite being a violent gory bloody and modern movie, there are still funny moments such as the car chases between a taxi and ice cream motorbike. He needs to finish the job against the Prime Minister and get rid of the punisher (ปีศาจดำ). Through an epic final the punisher is defeated. In Chumphon, the peaceful demonstration is crushed by the police. Wassana is in danger. Can Insee Daeng help her on time? This movie got disillusions at box office with only 13M baht. It was released on October 07 2010, one day before the 40th anniversary of the death of Mitr Chaibancha following the tragic deadly accident in Golden Eagle (อินทรีทอง) movie. It is still unlikely if the second part of the movie will be produced. Wisit Sasanatieng had issues when directing the film as he had to juggle between his artistic wishes and the commercial producer wishes. Some contemporary political elements could easily be interpreted as the movie casts politicians as the villains.

Bua, young female factoring worker, has a boyfriend, Pichan, who takes a video with his phone while they are making love. He shows it to his friends. One of them makes a copy while Pichan is not aware. He threathens Bua to release widely the movie if she doesn't give him some favors. Following a dispute with her boyfriend, they stop seeing each other. Bua loses her job as the bad friend shares widely the video. Disappointed by her boyfriend's behavior, Bua goes back to her village. Her parents' house is empty. They both died following a train accident. A villager called Samrit is having strong interest into Bua and tries to use a local sorcerer (หมอผี) to seduce her. Bua decides to kill herself as she has no hope after losing her parents, her job and boyfriend. She hangs herself under a Takien tree (ตะเคียน). She is reunited with her family and learns that their death is not accidental... A burying ceremony is performed. A few days later Bua ghost is back and frightens villagers. She kills one of the ruffians responsible of her parents' death. The Buddhist abbot is contacted for help. The sorcerer would like to control Bua in order to create powerful filters (ยาเสน่ห์), which could be even more powerful than corpse oil (น้ำมันพราย). Bua's boyfriend comes back to her village to find her and excuse himself (คนกรุงเทพใจแห้ง,). Same as Nang Nak ghost story he stays with her. She eats food offering laid down in front of spirit house. Pichan can see her but not the villagers. The friend who shared the video on internet is also here. One of the friends is killed as they try to abuse Bua. The other stays in the temple chapel (โบสถ์) and refuses to exit. Pichan still refuses to believe that Bua is a ghost already. Finally confronted to proofs he acknowledges. But it is late to flee. Bua doesn't want to let him go anymore. Bua is upset with the monk and Samrit who revealed her death to Pichan. Bua killed both Pichan and the friend, who released the video. The sorcerer decides to fight Bua despite the abbot request. He tortures the Takien tree and uses voodoo pupet to force her to be his slave (เป็นขี้ข้า). Pichan breaks the charm and the sorcerer finally dies due to his greed. Bua finally listens to the monk and accepts her death (ต้องยอมรับความตาย). Bua (บัว) means lotus, i.e. the Buddhism symbol. This movie reminds of 1990s Thai horror movies scenario but it features a more beautiful picture shooting (many wide angle shootings are used). The scenario is also inspired of Nang Nak (นางนาก) famous story.

This movie is based on four real sensational and lurid stories. It is surfing on the Phobia movies serie (5 แพร่ง / สี่แพร่ง) success. It is featuring four small episodes with different directors. ตายโหง (Tai Hong) are spirits who died following a violent death. 1) On New Year's Eve a party is taking place in a disco. A fire happens. A young man, called Em, survives to the fire and has vision of dead people that haunts him. His girlfriend died during the fire as she was was stuck in the restrooms. There was only one exit. Finally both of them already died during the fire... It is based on real event that occurred on December 31, 2008 in the Santika Club nightclub in Bangkok where 66 people died. 2) A young man is sent to prison. He has visions and hears voice. It is a scary prison with frequent suicides. He was sent to jail because he raped and killed a young lady. Finally unable to withstand the horrible visions pressure, he suicides himself. 3) A mute young man receives a visit from a young girl. A financial transaction happens between both of them. She dies in his flat. He hides the corpse inside the building water tank. Then he has visions of her dead body. As the body starts to putrefy, people living in the building start to drink or shower with the water from the tank and finds body residues. One young lady investigates but the mute young man tries to drown her in the water tank. He is finally the one to get sunk by the ghost... 4) A prostitute (Mai Charoeunpura) brings two men in a motel room. This movie is divided in 4 scary small stories related to consequences of past bad actions (เวรกรรม). When bad actions are performed, sooner or later, Thai people need to pay back (ต้องชดใช้)! The movie slogan is "กรรมใครกรรมมัน" so having a reference to the popular Thai expression "ตัวใครตัวมัน" (devil take the hindmost). * First story is about a young couple Som and Nat. A little girl is following Som. She calls Som as 'mum'. She is in fact a ghost. The little girl also frightens Nat. She is the child that Nat decided to abort as boring dury (เป็นภาระ) as Nat was only thinking about his own future. She now comes to take revenge on her ungrateful parents... * Second story is about teens riding motorbikes and launching rocks on cars driver to cause accidents so they steal easily their jewels and money. They finally get punished the same way they treat the others. * Third story is about a teen having a girlfriend. They confirm their love through red sacred threads (สายสิญจน์). Their love makes another teen unhappy. As the girlfriend is finally being dumped, she tried to hang herself. Instead of helping her the other teen just strangled her and disguise the crime as a suicide. The ghost is back for revenge on both of them. * The fourth story has a more comic twist as the action is taking place in a lousy hotel where people come for short time happiness. A female ghost is roaming there. The fourth episode reminds of the movie Buppha Rahtree mixing horror and laughters including stupid policemen and ladyboy characters.

A young lady called Sree sees her boyfriend Oof going to cinema with another girl called Ying. Oof is a rich young playboy and also a liar. Hearing Oof speaking to Sree that she has no value for him, Ying, sad and disappointed, gets suicide. Oof and Sree start to have many frightening visions and see Ying ghost. Mo, Sree’s sister, helps her to find a role in a horror movie. The film producer (played by Pete Thongjure) likes Sree a lot. Meanwhile Oof still tries to resume relationship with Sree as he feels lonely. To have a break, Mo brings Sree and her friends on a remote island accessible by a ferry carrying cars. The horror movie will be shot there. A bad omen is welcoming them as police is just extracting a dead body from the sea. Their hotel resort is quite empty as it is low season. The film producer is also the owner of the resort. The friends leave the hotel after seeing a ghost at nighttime. Going back, they inform Sree that they read in a newspaper that Oof jumps to his death from a building! Once the movie is shot, a romance starts between Sree and the film producer. Back to her room, Oof is waiting for her. They have arguments as Sree was in fact the one having pushed Ying from the roof. It was not a suicide. But Oof didn't stop or prevent Sree to push Ying. Following a fight, Sree stabs Oof. When her sister is back to the room, Sree also kills her. Sree always had animosity against her beloved sister as she loves stealing things from her such as her doll many years ago or recently the resort owner... Having another ghostly vision, she stabs the resort owner trying to help her. While putting the bodies inside a big hole, she falls inside due to the sloppy soil caused by heavy rain. She gets crushed by a spirit house. Ananda Everingham appears after the credits. He was a former boyfriend of Sree. The same director made the movie “My Ex” (แฟนเก่า) in 2009 related also to a former girlfriend coming from grave and looking for revenge.

O is a nurse. Her boyfriend is Koff, who is also working in the hospital. Yong is a medicine student having poor academic results. His girlfriend tries to push him (ตั้งใจเรียน). Yong's mother believes his poor results are linked to his girlfriend so if he doesn't pass the next exams, she will send him abroad. Yong needs to find a solution. Tong, Yong’s friend, is very shy with girls and is humiliated by his friends. After reading a book about black magic, Yong proposes to help Tong. Knowing that a pregnant woman without relatives died recently, Yong takes its dead baby and oil from her chin at the morgue. Koff sees them but keeps it secret per Ying's request. Yong makes a baby spirit or “kuman thong” (กุมารทอง) and love philter. Tong starts to have success with girls thanks to the love filter. Yong uses the “kuman thong” to help him passing the exams. He gets the highest grade. But there is nothing free in this world, so sooner or later Tong and Yong will have to pay back... Yong's food starts to be filled of foetus parts. Tong starts to seduce many girls at the same time but he starts to see them as dead spirits. While trying to axe them, he is shot dead by the police. Koff gets his legs and arms broken by the spirit. Doctor and his girlfriend O believes it is an accident. After getting the truth from Yong, O finally believes in this ghost story. Yong dies in the same fire he burnt the “kuman thong” doll. O finds the man that makes the dead lady pregnant. He dropped her as he was married already. She died by accident when falling from the stairs following an argument. The spirit then takes revenge on Koff as he didn't help her when she was missing oxygen and even had necrophilia with her. O is then stabbed by a crazy guy in the hospital as she didn't help when Koff was endangered. All people involved in this sad story die. Only Koff survives but he becomes crazy.

Mr Sneed is getting international gamblers to bet big money on the best fighters to win. It is game up to death. The action takes place in a disaffected factory. Ao and Ed win against three opponents. James and Pom move to the wrong side due to money matters. Strong group fights take place and finally the “Fighting Club” team wins. A final fight against master Parina happens. Pod's mum is held captured to influence him negatively. Anyway they defeat the master as he needs some respiratory medicine. A final epic fight happens on moving trucks. Gamblers are also punished. Panna Rittikrai trained actor Tony Jaa so fights are always intense and real. Some acrobatic jumps on motorbikes or high jumps from buildings are really impressive. The movie scenario is simple but Panna Rittikrai’s fans want to see true fights only. This movie is similar to video game concept.

Ong Bak 3 movie is a follow up of Ong Bak version 2 where Tien was defeated and captured by King Jom Rachan soldiers. Tien (Tony Jaa) is condemned to death by the King Jom Rachan (Saranyu Wongkrachang). His body is broken and beaten harshly. Insurrection is ongoing against the King Jom Rachan (พระองค์) but this latter eliminates all his opponents (Choomporn Theppitak). On the execution day, Tien is saved at last minute and sent to Ayutthaya. Bad omens are seen by the King. To try to influence the future, he sends some ninjas to kill Tien in Ayutthaya. They fail thanks to some courageous Ayutthaya soldiers. Thanks to Buddhist prayers, offerings, casting of a Buddha statue, dances and Buddhist monk's (Nirut Sirijanya) healing skills, Tien is cured. But full recovery is difficult. He considers suicide as he is almost infirmed. Through inner peace, meditation and efforts (ฝึก), he starts to recover management of his limbs. A new fighter take over the King Jom Rachan looking for power only (อำนาจ). Aware of Tien recovery, the new King sends soldiers to catch him and burns his village. Tien is wearing white clothes (purity) while the new King is wearing dark clothes (evil). Tien has no choice but to go to the King palace to defy him in order to release the villagers and his love. Following epic fights including jumping from one elephant to another or using real elephant tusks to fly, Tien defeats the evil King. As usual in Tony Jaa’s movies, actor Mum Jokmok is played a relief character. In Ong Bak 2 there was an action scene with two elephants. In Ong Bak 3, the actors were among more than 20 elephants. Tony Jaa introduces Nattayut in Ong Bak 3. It is a dharma martial art that can protect soul from bad deeds. It is a kind of meditation that can heal heart and soul.

There is sarcastic irony and allusion from director Yuthlert Sippapak regarding the Yellow and Red Shirts fights in Thai modern politics. With Tee Rifle, the hitman symbol is demystified as he feels guilty each time (รู้สึกผิดทุกที่). Tee Rifle meets Chris in a bar and presents himself as Mark. Tee Rifle is hired for a new job. He shall shoot all the green leaders including Chris’ father. A second medicine fails to recover his little bird (ฉันไม่ใช่กะเทยแต่ผู้ชายโชคร้าย). Political leaders use violence. Win hatred with hatred. Is it the solution to political problems? Brown, purple, green political parties. All leaders are shot by Tee Rifle. The next job is to shoot Chris! The hirer is the wife of Chris' boyfriend. Chris was not aware that her boyfriend was married already! She still meets Mark at the same usual bar and a friendship starts. Tee Rifle shots Chris’ boyfriend to close the dispute! Thanks to a good friend, Chris is aware that Tee Rifle shot her father so she wishes to take revenge. Tee Rifle is recruited for a new contract. The target has rent a hotel for his birthday. Chris knowing that the hitman will act and so she enrolls herself as a coyote dancer to be able to catch him. Seeing Chris dancing lively, Tee Rifle has a control crisis and cannot execute his job. Chris now knows that Tee rifle and Mark are the same man. Following some shooting into impressive unfinished 1997 villas, Mark succeed to escape from Chris. Chris finally catches him in a Christian church. She spares his life not because of love but because Thai politicians are the real responsible. Thailand would be a better place without politicians so as a hitman, she shoots all Thai politicians leaders! This movie mixes comedy and action. It also gives a strong social message regarding politicians that are judged responsible of the current mess in Thailand (Yellow Shirts versus Red Shirts). It features a funky soundtrack. “Saturday killer” is part of a trilogy including “Sunday Killer” and “Friday Killer”.

Mook disappears in a swimming pool. Somebody drags her under the water. Charlie is a rescuer. One evening while driving carelessly and arguing with his girlfriend over the phone, he hits a passerby. It is Mook! Hopefully she is not dead but has lost her memory. At nighttime a ghost (ผีตามมา) tries to kill her. Charlie has to help her to recover her memory and thoughts. The ghost is coming through the water that is leaking in the hospital. Every time Mook swims, such as rescuing a young girl, ghosts try to drown her (ผีหลอก). Charlie starts to get more information. Mook is a sport student who disappeared two years ago. She starts to remember and meets her former gym teacher, who is now blind. On that tragic night he was driving the mini bus of the students. They have many medals and always promise to stay together. Being drunk, the driver hit a big truck coming in opposite direction. The mini bus falls in the river. Mook succeeds to escape but the other students die. A promise can be given but it can withdraw also (สบาญถอดได้). Finally to ask the spirits regarding the promise withdraw, they need to go back to the former swimming pool which is now closed. Their policeman friend, nicknamed officer (ผู้กอง) despite being only a first grade staff, helps them to enter. Through touching words, Mook convinces the ghosts to stop their quest for applying the former promise. This movie features Intira Jaroenpura, who played in many horror movies, and Koeti Aramboy, young comic actor. This movie includes a popular mix of two kinds of favorite movies by Thai audience, i.e. comedy and horror.

The undertaker is a professional former hitman, so he is impressed by the young men, who dared to shoot a famous mafia leader! They receive bone powder in the eyes so they all can see ghosts now. Thai singer ศุภักษร ไชยมงคล has a small cameo role. Pop has also a strange family. They get shot at night time by an angry man. Pop and his family were in fact already dead. Surrounded by ghosts, Ratree and the two boys must flee again. Ratree meets her boyfriend (ไปกับพี่ / ไปกับผี). He is already dead also. Following an accident, his head hurt a pillar while Ratree was driving. She had hidden the body inside the car trunk. Her boyfriend, wishing to take her back, causes her car to have an accident. All are dead. Being ghosts, Ratree is now Doo’s girlfriend.

This movie is a comedy that explores the lives in front and behind the camera of Thai's film industry. Mum Jokmok has invited all the comic actors from decade 2000s such as Tukkie, Pongsak Pongsuwan, Akom Preedakul, Thep Po-ngam... Certainly not a 100 millions baht movie, which is the new mark for box-office hit for decade 2000s movies. Thep Po-ngam is Mum Jokmok's mentor. In 2009, the Court of Justice of Thailand affirmed Thep Po-ngam bankrupt so there is self irony when he visits Mum Jokmok to produce a movie. He finally only gets a role as actor. Mum Jokmok is responsible of a company making movies. Same as comic TV programs, there is a funny noise at each gag. Mum Jokmok is the director (ผู้กำกับ) and faces many comic issues to have the movie shot. It includes the ceremony (งานเลี้ยงปิดกลอง) for the blessing of a new movie. Various comic sequences happing during shooting and behind the stage. This movies looks like more a succession of sketchs linked with a Thai movie shooting background. It looks like more a TV comic program put on a movie stage. There is no real story.

Tukky is selling frogs on a market and has always arguments with other vendors (แม่ค้า) or the local mafia asking for their monthly extorsion fee. Tukky is always kissing her frogs and is hoping that one day, one frog will become a prince. One day a prince really comes and Tukky gets kidnapped. She wakes up dressed like a princess. She is now the princess (เจ้าหญิง) of a small kingdom called Padangrawee. She takes revenge on the market mafia and other market vendors who oppressed her before. Finally Tukky is not the real princess of the kingdom but she is used as a replacement due to political reasons. She needs to do her best (ตั้งใจให้เป็นเจ้าหญิงดีที่สุด) to act as a princess. She needs to take urgent lessons to increase her skills. Those lessons include horse riding, wine tasting, society dances. The crazy teachers are famous comic actors Akom Preedakul, Pongsak Pongsuwan who are giving a very good performance as usual. Tukky is also relooked. She is finally successfully presented to the press. She gets her motivation through her love to her main bodyguard (หมวกบังตาแต่ความรักไม่บังหัวใจ). Her presence causes the ire of a mysterious lobbying group sending a ninja to get rid of her. During a diner with the prime minister, she gets drunk and defeats the ninja thanks to flatulence and vomit. Flatulence and vomit don't have the same taboo as westerner movies. She is thinking to stop playing the princess as the risks are very high but she is the hope (ความหวัง) of the kingdom so she cannot stop. The real princess is finally uncovered. Both the real princess and Tukky are kidnapped. Finally thanks to the bodyguards, they are released and the ruffians are defeated. There is great fun during the first part of the movie but the second part is more conventional.

This movie contains three short stories shot by different Thai directors. First story is directed by Yuthlert Sippapak. A pregnant young lady dies in a coach while trying to give birth. The bus company owner decides to hide the death. The body is hidden inside a big Moo Yo (หมูยอ) or local sausage. Funny characters include a bus driver, a middle age bus company owner who speaks unclearly Thai and a sexy bus hostess. The pregnant woman, who dies during pregnancy, becomes a fearful ghost (ผีตายโหงทองกลม). The ghost starts to appear in the bus. More problems arise when a policeman is joining the bus trip. How can they rid of the ghost without catch the policeman's attention? Finally the troubles are over when the sausage is grilled... Second story is directed by Ping Lumpraploeng. Maan is selling car assurance. He is married to a lady called Pancake. He has no respect for her and even has a mistress. He believes Pancake has a lover (มีกิ๊ก) and engages a hitman (มือปืน) to get rid of her. As he mixes her identity papers with his own papers, the hitman needs to kill him! The hitman is in fact his best friend (เพื่อนใช่ไหม). Will his friend reminds friendship or execute his hitman job? Last story is directed by Jaroenporn Onlama. It is about a film director, played by Koeti Aramboy, who discovers that his girlfriend Peui, leading actress, is pregnant with the leading actor. She drinks a medicine to kill the baby as he is not ready to be a father privileged his career (ยังไม่พร้อม).

It is a comedy about three men unfaithful to their wives. They always need to find excuses for their wives as they are coming back home late. Up to now their lies succeeded to convince their wives. Teng (actor Shahkrit Yamnarm) needs to find a new model. He finds a beautiful woman in a mall and takes pictures of her but forget to ask her contact references. Teng finally meets her in a bar. Her name is Sosi. Teng is expert to play the liar (สบายๆ) but Sosi is also lying. Her husband is called Sia. Finally Teng's two friends are uncovered by their wives as their lies were getting bigger and bigger (working late - OT, late meetings, fight against ruffians...). Proofs were stored in their blackBerry smartphones. To make him stop, one of the wife sings in a pub he often frequents and she accepts tips from customers (ทำประชด). Teng has a lovely wife called Bow but a love story is really starting between Sosi and Teng. Finally the male stratagems are discovered. They have to stay home and bring their wives to a holidays resort. But they cannot stop trying seducing other women. They use sedative drugs to make their wives fall asleep (ยานอนหลับ). The drugs don’t last enough and the three men are caught being with girls again by their wives. A final last chance is given. Sia is upset by Sosi’s behavior and wishes to punish her. Sosi’s brother calls Teng for help but Teng has promised to his wife to stop seeing Sosi. Teng and his friends try to rescue Sosi but are captured. Their wives, following them, are also captured. Sia forces them to play silly and humiliating games (mud game, paint game...) to save their husbands. Mum Jokmok, as a guest star apparition, makes them all released. Bow and Teng reconcile once again. But the three men cannot stop flirting (หลายใจ) when seeing beautiful women. Morality is kept as the husbands stays with their wife. There is a few comic guest stars apparition, i.e. Akom Preedakul, Note Chernyim, Mum Jokmok, Jaturong Mokjok. Former Miss Photogenic International Passorn Boonyakiat is playing one of the wives. There is a succession of gags similar to Thai TV comedy shows. This movie is about the old chauvinist Thai tradition to have minor wives (เมียน้อย). Gags are often over exaggerated with easy references such as the shy timid wife wearing glasses.

ยายสั่งมาใหญ่ is a Thai movie released in year 2010. Chai's grandmother has gambling debts, i.e. 560 000 bath. Chai has to find solutions as the mafia is looking to get back their money. Chai identifies thanks to an old picture that Khuat (Jaturong Mokjok), a serious gambler, is his brother. Khuat is always involved in casino games (การพนัน). Khuat loves secretly Nong Muay. If he wins lottery, Khuat promises to do good deeds (ทำบุญ). Chai has supernatural skills since he falls in the river while being a novice. He can transform small items or make wishes to happen. Chai wishes Khuat to help to find money for his grandmother but he is more obsessed by Nong Muay. Khuat uses Chai to win while playing card games. Nong Muay is also indebted of 200 000 bath. Khuat pays it but the casino owner Sia asks for interest also! Khuat has promised to stop playing cards. Both Chai and Khuat are recruited as guards as they helped Mr Mongkol who had issues with casino owner Sia. His daughter called Lin is a bit plum and is keen of Chai. As Mongkol is always losing card games against Sia, he hires a champion from Hong Kong. A final game between Mongkol and the casino owner Sia shall happen and involves their whole fortune. As the Hong Kong champion has a deadly accident, Khuat needs to replace him. The daughter Lin and Nong Muay are kidnapped by the casino owner Sia. They succeed to escape. Finally Sia is defeated despite using a medium to change the cards and is losing all his fortune. The grandmother gambling debts were fake. It was a game in order to be reunited as a family with Khuat and Chai. Moralist end as all the money gains are given to charity.

Busaba and Khun are preparing their wedding. Following a misunderstanding, Khun is accused of killing a member of Parliament. He is given a DVD by this member of Parliament before his death. The DVD is hidden inside the cover of Thai movie "แอบคนข้างบ้าน". Khun is sent to jail. Some ruffians try to force him to give back the DVD but to no avail. There is a comical representation of the jail environment. He is sent with his inmates to famous and harsh prison called 8E88. There are some references to famous Thai carceral movie "ขั้ง 8" (Butterfly grey). The ruffians threaten his fiancee so Khun has no choice but escape from 8E88 prison in order to help her. He succeeds to do so as the guardians are very lenient as they receive orders to let him go. It is a trick from the ruffians leader in order to exchange the DVD versus Khun's girlfriend. All classical Thai comic topics are here, i.e. lady boy, flatulence, police being fools, ghosts... Busaba is hurt by the ruffians and dies. Busaba ghost still wishes to help her fiance Khun. Khun searches for the DVD inside a DVD rental company's stock. The ruffians arrive at the DVD company. The police follows up. Khun cannot see his girlfriend Busaba (ตายแล้ว) as he has an amulet (ของ) around the neck. Busaba tries to protect Khun against the ruffians. Thanks to a video recording Khun demonstrates his innocence as the DVD contains proofs regarding the illegal activities of the ruffians leader. Khun forces the police to shoot him so that he can be with Busaba in the ghost world. Busaba finally wakes up so Khun made the wrong decision to die!

As usual, Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s movies are not easy to understand. “Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives” is no exception. On top of this, most of this movie is narrated in Lao language so it makes it more difficult to understand. A family, aunt Jane and her son Tom, arrive from Bangkok into a Isan village. The car is passing by Isan villages through long sequences without any dialogs. They are visiting Uncle Boonmee. The uncle is seriously sick and needs to receive caring and medication. At evening time during a diner, a spirit is visiting them. It is Uncle Boonmee’s former wife. She is happy to receive good deeds from donations made to Buddhist temple. Then another spirit comes also. It is a half man half monkey with red eyes (ผีลิง). It is Uncle Boonmee’s son. His son, photographer, had been trying to shoot a weird spirit in the forest since a long time. They are looking at old pictures together. Many following sequences in the movie are about Uncle Boonmee recalling his previous incarnations. It is a film about recollection and death, about death and rebirth. Many sequences are beautifully shot especially night photography scenes but the sequences meaning is not easy to understand. Various sequences include 1) a buffalo is tied to a tree. He succeeds to break the rope and flees away. His owner is looking for it and finally finds it 2) weird spirit with red eyes seen in the jungle 3) A mysterious old woman is carried in a palanquin by a whole troupe. She is then talking to the waterfalls spirit. There is a love sequence with a fish. There are many spirit beliefs around Isan countryside. Discussion between uncle Boonmee and his wife about after life happen. The aunt and his son are going inside the jungle and a cave looking for the spirit with red eyes. Uncle Boonmee is finally found in the cave. He has finished to recall his past lives and dies. A Buddhist ceremony for his funeral is organised. The nephew Tom is a monk. He decides to disrobe not able to withstand quiet life in the Buddhist temple. It seems that everybody is back to a normal life. This movie won Cannes 2010 festival palme d'or. Apichatpong Weerasethakul became the first Thai director to receive such award. The movie was shot in 16mm format. It seems to also be an homage to the dying film cinema replaced by digital cinema. People often hate or like Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s movies but they are worth seeing as offering a refreshing breath outside the modern Thai cinema stream.

Both children hate their transgender father and resort to prostitution. The daughter even keeps her school uniform. Some sex scenes are deemed too hard with genital seen. There is even a dream of patricide. Two main messages say “They are insects. They live in the Backyard called world” and “They are human. Who live in a Cage called ‘sex’”.

7 millions of baht have been hidden following a robbery. One of the robber is called Sing. His girlfriend is a prostitute. The police raids the illegal casino (บ่อน) she is staying in. They are looking for Sing but she doesn't know where he is hiding. The money has been hidden in a Buddhist temple. The three robbers come back to the temple but a chapel (โบสถ์) has been constructed on the top of the cache. They need to dig (ต้องขุด) but as it takes time, the only way is to become monk (ต้องบวช) in order to be able to stay in the temple. Sing points his gun to the abbot to force the ordination. Sing and Dang ordinate (เป็นพระ). Pong prefers to remain as a temple boy. Sing and Pong behave badly as monk, i.e. chase dog with feet, say bad words, don't follow closely the temple rules (ระเบียบของวัด), smoke, hit novice (เณร), don't pray before eating. Sing is atheist and calls the abbot as 'boss' instead of เจ้าอาวาส. At night time, they dig. The morning arrives earlier than expected. They need to hit the temple gong (ระฆัง), need to say blessings. The abbot has to justify their inexperience by mentioning they are new monks (พระบวชใหม่) from Thudong order (พระธุดงค์). Sing cannot support the food at lunch time made of alms donation (ฉันเพื่ออยู่ไม่ใช้อยู่เพื่อฉัน). The abbot is also doing tatoos. Pong asks for tatoos also (ศาสนาพุทธศักดิ์สิทธิ์เกิน ดีกว่าคุณทำร้ายได้). Sing is still complaining. His feet hurt as he is not used to walk bare foot. Life prison was easier. Food is not good. Earlier they promised to share 50% of the money with a fourth unknown man. The abbot has money on him and doesn't hesitate to touch a woman bitten by a snake. Dang and Sing hit badly robbers who were trying to steal Buddha statues in order to protect their secret digging activities inside the chapel. They lie to villagers (หลอกชาวบ้าน). They know they are wrong but still do wrong (รู้ว่าทำผิดแต่ยังทำผิด). Sing misses his girlfriend Nam Peung so he invites her to join him to Wat Pa Lom but she refuses believing it is another bad joke from Sing (ช่วยตัวเองก็แล้วกัน). Believing it can be good for her karma, she finally visits the temple and finds Sing as a monk (หลวงพี่). Sings removes his monk robe to make love to Nam Peung. Sing breaches all Buddhist precepts and brings trouble to the temple community. Pong is a good guy and explains to the abbot what happens before. They did a bank robbery (ปล้นเงิน) and hide the money inside the temple's chapel. Pong wanted to help his blind mother. He has lengthy discussion with the abbot about Buddhism (It is possible to teach some people to be good, it is more difficult with some others สอนให้เป็นคนดีบางคนสอนได้บางคนสอนยาก - Badness is easier to do than goodness / ความชั่วทำง่ายความดียทำยาก). Being discovered by other monks, Sing and Dang threathen to kill the monks if they don't help to dig. At morning time, they need to go for alms (เป็นเวลาบิณฑบาตร). If they don't go, they will have nothing to eat. Today is Makabucha day so local people are coming for offerings (บูชา) and listen to sermon (ฟังเทศน์). Dang decides to give them a poignant sermon regarding children working far away from parents to send them money and encourage parents to teach well their kids (สอนลูกดีดี - กตัญญู) to avoid becoming bad guy like him. While digging, they find a cache but no money. Sing starts to break the main Buddha statue. There is a small golden statue inside. A police inspector enters the chapel. Nam Peung was keeping the police inspector informed. He is a corrupted cop asking for his share. They shot at each other. The police inspector is hit. Dang is hit also. Nam Peung hits Sing, who was going to shoot the abbot. Nam Peung finds the money bag in the base of the Buddha statue but it is empty. She prefers to suicide herself instead of surrending to the police. The abbot takes the responsability on him (ผิดเอง). Pong is arrested. 4 years passed. Pong is doing ordination for his blind mother, who cries when holding the yellow robes (ผ้าเหลือง). The former abbot has defrocked. He has now a wife and a child. He is driving a Mercedes car. He comes back to get the golden Buddha statue. He was the one who kept the money. He is finally arrested and the statue is restituted to the temple. After 3 years waiting for the new film law to avoid a ban, this movie was finally released uncut with a Rate 18+. Making a story with bad monks is strong for the local Thai audience as faith and crime are always taboo in Thai films. There is a comparison between the four characters and the four types of lotus in Buddhism (บัวประเภทไหน).

Nat has a blondish girlfriend Poon. She has often ghosts visions. They get an invitation to go to Chiang Mai. On the way, they stop to visit Nat's mother. Nat's mother has a bad dream. She frequently visits temples and would like her son to make merit (ทำบุญ) in nine temples (9 วัด). Nat needs to clean his karma by doing merit. There is a strong opposition between the old style mum (แม่โบราณ) and the young modern woman, Poon. Nat finally accepts his mother's request. He meets a monk, who was a childhood friend. The monk goes with them for the nine temples visit. Nat and Poon are young and modern youngsters, who don't know religion and how to show respect to monks (They always call him 'phra' - พระ - instead of 'Luang Phi' - หลวงพี่). Nat doesn't give respect to Buddha images (ไม่ไหว้พระใหญ่). They don't understand why the young man is going for the forest way of life (ธุดง) and how he can sleep in cemeteries (ป่าช้า). Nat is always hot tempered (ใจร้อน). Many warnings are given to them through visions and through the monk's remarks (ช่วยไม่ทันยิ่งทรมานเปล่าๆ). They face death, face accidents, see dead people and ghosts. Those are warnings to them. It is linked to their karma (กรรม) and they cannot escape it. Poon asks the monk's help but Nat refuses to believe up to the point they break up. They are followed up by terrible actions linked to her past. In previous life, they were linked to a young disfigured boy set prisoner in a remote forest hut by his mum as he killed her lover fearing to lose his mother. They finally get reunited and bring the monk to destination. Nat, Poon and Nat's mother share the same past and all come to the same house where the young boy was held prisoner. They need to do more merit (กุศล). The monk and Nat are born the same day. The mother tried to deceive the karma (หลอกกรรม) by interchanging the babies. Her real son is the monk. But the karma cannot be escaped. However it can be altered (กรรมเปลี่ยนไม่ได้แต่แก้ไขได้). Karma is following us (กรรมตาม). The monk is protected from karma by his yellow robe (ผ้าเหลือง) but not Nat. So he is the one to suffer. The monk pays for the past sins through redemption (ชดใช้) by giving his own life so the karma is over. Nat, Poon and the mother are being reunited as a family. The movie features a nice fresh soundtrack.

Noi decides to enter the monkhood (บวช) and rejects his rock star attitude. He is looking for calm (เอาความสงบ) as he is a stressed man. The abbot reminds him the analogy between a hose splashing randomly due to water pressure and the spirit always wandering. Funny gags happen when monks are going out for alms (บิณฑบาตร) due to small size comic actor Koeti Aramboy trying to offer food to a giant monk or when a man is still jealous that his wife has a sweet spot for the abbot since decades. As usual there are flatulence jokes when spicy and sour food is given to monks. Robbers steal the temple bell (ระฆัง). Later they come to steal the Buddha head (มาขโมยพระ). Monks are all drugged but hopefully the main Buddha statue (หลวงพ่อ) is not stolen as it is too heavy! The gang leader is a burlesque Chinese vendor. He uses false claims regarding the monks that they enter monkhood while leaving pregnant women behind them. Noi is smart enough to counter their lies. Actor Akom Preedakul is playing a funny Thai boxing trainer bringing coyote dancers to the temple! Similar to 1980s-1990s decade comedy ghost movies, there is an sequence about villagers fleeing ghosts. Unfortunately the Buddha statue head is cut and stolen by the Chinese gang. The giant monk disguises himself as soft real Bouddha statue (Luang Pho Nim - หลวงพ่อนิ่ม) as a trick to find their cache. Then Noi asks his former bikers friends for help. They are led by Ed carabao, real leader of famous Thai band Carabao. The robbers are captured and the Buddha head recovered.

Thai movie คนจน ผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ / Poor people the great was released in year 2010 and lasts 1h16mn. Movie director is Boonsong Nakphoo. It is a movie released by Plapen Wai Thuan Nam Film Studio. Boonsong Nakphoo is also acting in his own movies. He made it after discovering that he could not make the film in his own way in the mainstream. This film was shot by a Canon 7D camera and acted by all non-actors and teamwork with almost no experience in filmmaking. Villager Choo has 20,000 THB debts and is in trouble. He travels by using an old bicycle. He has to use a phone booth to contact relatives. He complains his teen son Sorn is always out with his friends. His wife left him. Choo tries to find a job, but there is no small job available. The local carpenter or the local Buddhist temple have no job to offer. Choo is not willing to go to Bangkok as expenses are high and benefits are less. He prefers to stay in the village even if salaries are lower because expenses are lower. His old mum prays the local ancestors (ปู่) and is wishing good fortune to her family. Some people owe money to Choo, but they have no money to give back. It is an endless cycle. Other villagers push him to go to Bangkok as there is no job in the village. Kids are selling beer bottles to the local recycler (Boonsong Nakphoo) to get some pocket money. The man has to pay a fee to the local policeman to close his eyes. He is checking that the kids are not addicted (เล่นยา). One villager is back from overseas. He invites Choo and recommends him to work overseas but as Choo is poor, nobody will lend him money. Choo tries to grab Nop, who owes him money, but Nop has fled away. Choo goes up to Sukhothai, but Nop has been fired as he was stealing from the cash register. Choo has issues with his son as kids have nothing to do and indulge in cheap drugs. As they are sons of poor people, they see themselves having no future. Boonsong Nakphoo encourages the youngsters to become singers as they like to play music. Being darked skinned, poor, ugly, they don't see how they could achieve their dreams. Poor people have a good heart as there is always water to drink when visitors are coming. It is a vicious cycle as Choo tries to borrow money to pay his debts, but nobody wants to lend him money. The youngsters sing the Carabao song คนจน. Boonsong Nakphoo recommends them to do a demo tape. The youngsters steal some steel at nighttime to resell it to the recycler Boonsong Nakphoo, believing it belongs to their parents. Choo wishes to mortgage his land, but the mother is reluctant. Sorn is arrested for theft. Choo finally borrows 30,000 THB and has to give back 36,000 THB in 4 months. Choo bails his son. The mother Toy is back from Bangkok for one day. She brings some gifts, but the son is upset that she didn't visit for many years. She claims she didn't have enough money. She tells Choo to contact her if anything occurs, but she never answered when Choo called her from the phone booth... Boonsong Nakphoo visits Sorn but he is not here. The grandmother mentions he is gone to Bangkok with his father.

Surasee Phatham has directed a remake of his own movie in 2009 as he was never happy with the number of details that were edited out. In “Rural Teacher” movie remake, most of the actors speak Isan / Lao language. The story is the same but many details have been changed. For the complete story, please read the above 1978 “Rural teacher” movie review. The village name has changed from Baan Nong Ma Wo (บ้านหนองหมาว้อ) to Baan Nong Hi Yai (บ้านหนองฮีใหญ่). The movie features many Isan country side ceremonies and customs such as lying by a fire after a child birth (to purify of all poisons and influences from ghosts), food (frog, snake, rice alcohol - เหล้าขาว). It reminds a bit of "A Child of the Northeast" ("LUK ISAN" - ลูกอีสาน) movie. Teacher Piya is now called Teacher Pichet. Teacher Pichit is now called Teacher Somchat. The headmaster is more funny and is played by actor Mum Jokmok. Famous action director Panna Rittikrai is also having a role as a strange man living away from the village. The headmaster plays lottery while teaching pupils. The children often miss school as they need to work for their parents or parents have no money to buy school uniforms for them. There are no chairs for children to sit. The headmaster and teacher Somchat need to ride horse to go to city. They need to buy their own teacher clothes. Pichet has pushed for the school modernization. New clothes offered by the local influential man owning the illegal logging concession. The main actor, Pichet Kongkarn, is a singer. He is singing a few songs related to Isan people leaving their village to go to work in cities and leaving behind grandparents to take care of babies, related to forest kindness (บุญคุณของป่า) or related to knowledge (ความรู้) and kindness (ความดี). Ruffians wear mask to frighten the villagers (ผีหลอก) so that they don't mingle inside the forest. Pichet finds poison in the forest. It is used by ruffians for people to get sick. Pichet finds the huge logging concession. The journalist head doesn't dare publishing the news and pictures. Pichet and the headmaster motivate the villagers to fight against the ruffians. A young journalist finally dares editing the news. Villagers fight with ruffians and one villager is shot. Panna Rittikrai can even show his fighting skills. The movie ends tragically for the teacher. The new version was released 2 days before National Teachers Day (วันครู) in 2010. The Culture Ministry, regarded "Kru Baan Nok" as a promotional tool and provided some support. As expected the movie didn’t raise as much interest as 31 years ago as Thai society has evolved. Thai film industry has become more and more centralized with a Bangkok mindset. Politics and social commentary are now divorced from pure entertainment movies. Students and young people are not concerned about politics as they used to be. The movie might have been more successful if the remake was taking place in 2010 and talked about modern issues as corruption and hitmen are still present nowadays. In 1978, teacher Thim Bun-ing was shot after denouncing a bribery at the school construction of his village in Satuek District (Buriram). A teacher and activist, Khru Thim fought hard to see that Isan children had more educational opportunities and more efficient educational programmes. A group of teachers in Isan, wanting to keep his ideology alive, established the Foundation in his memory in 1983. Maybe "The Rural Teacher" movie was based on this real story.

Po, a rich young man (วัยรุ่น), loves hip hop dances but his skills are not very good. Taking opportunity to visit his modern and fit grandfather (ปู่) in Bangkok, he wishes to learn dances skills. He goes to Siam Square to find good hip hop dancers. He meets Niew, a young dancer he saw on Youtube. When realizing that Niew is a girl (ไม่เอาผู้หญิงสอน), he refuses to have her as a teacher. But even his grandfather dances better than him (สู้คนแก่ไม่ได้). Po always complains so his grandfather needs to push him. He finally accepts Niew but needs to exercise his body first. He finally learns well. The grandfather didn't dance tango with anybody since his wife died ten years ago. He doesn't like to lose (แพ้) and wishes his grandson to be the same. Po finds that Niew has to perform club dance at nighttime as she is not wealthy. This doesn't break their friendship and a romance story starts between Po and Niew. Teens confront each other through dances competition. Po fails and flees instead of facing the competition. The grandfather wants to achieve his dreams through his grandson. He couldn't win an international dance title 30 years ago. Another dance confrontation turns bad and the grandfather needs to rescue Po. During a car accident, Po breaks his leg and the grandfather is in coma. They all finally recover and understand that dances are for fun, for love but not for winning. The movie shows beautiful shooting sequences of Tango dances and Break dances. It highlights the knowledge transmission between generations. Through hard work, people can achieve their dreams. Settha Sirachaya delivers a neat performance and it seems that his wife, legendary veteran actress Aranya Namwong, can be seen shortly in one sequence.

Mother Pim stays with her two teen daughters Nam and Paeng. The father is in USA and is taking care of a restaurant business. They didn't see their father for five years. The one that will get first grade in her classroom will get a ticket to New York. Nam often discusses about puppy love with her friends. Nam particularly likes Chon, a student from grade Matthayom 4 (มัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4), who is a good photographer. Nam needs inspiration through love and uses a book to find hints to get a boyfriend. She even thinks about having a colored brace as it is a teen fashion in Thailand. Nam and her best friends try to find romantic ways in order than Chon gets interest in her but Nam has to face other secondary girl students, such as sweet girl called Mamuang (มะมว่ง) that looks more mature. A funny teacher character, Inn, is played by Tukkie as a small size teacher getting interest into another male teacher but having to face other beautiful female teachers (ไม่เคยแพ้ใคร). There is similitude between Nam and her teacher, who have difficulties to find true love. Her friends decide to relook her but she looks now yellowish (ลอเล่น). Nam has to play Snow White character (เวทีละคร). She is shocked as she had a dark complexion but the make-up lady really transforms her into a really cute young lady. The show is not a success as most pupils prefer to watch the Thai traditional dance performance done by Mamuang. Anyway the teacher keeps high spirit in the performing team. Nam is nominated as major cheerleader to handle and throw the walking stick. She needs to be beautiful and agile. As first she fails but as she is challenged by other girls she fights back and succeeds. Despite her achievement, Chon still has no interest in her. Worst than that, Chon's best friend, Top, tries to seduce her. Nam has to accept him in order to be close to Chon. Finally she alienates her old friends. She finally tells Top that she doesn't love him. Nam finishes her exams at the first rank. During the last day of the school year, students sign each other shirts. Finally Nam tells Chon how much she loves him but it is too late as Chon has already a new girlfriend. Chon is selected to play football in a Thai club. Nam goes to USA to stay with her father. It is discovered that Chon loved Nam but never dares to tell her. Nine years have passed. Nam has become a successful designer. They finally become reunited on a TV show. The movie end is quite basic and without surprise as they finally get reunited. It is anyway a sweet and enjoyable movie in the range of Thai popular teen romantic movies in recent years. This movie won the award in the audience-chosen Laugh category at the Okinawa International Movie Festival. “First Love” (สิ่งเล็กๆที่เรียกว่ารัก) movie also reaps 80M Baht in 2010 in second position behind another romantic comedy “Hello Stranger” (กวน มึน โฮ).

It is opus 10 regarding Boonchu saga. Unfortunately director Bandit Ritthakol just died in 2009 when doing the movie pre-production so Kiet Kijcharouen has directed this movie. Boonchoke is going to Chiang Mai to study to university. His parents, Boonchu and Mo, let him go alone so that he can acquire more independence. He meets a lovely girl called Khun Chahom. He is sharing a flat with a new friend called Mor. Mor teaches Boonchoke what is correct or not when talking to ladies. Mo is two months pregnant but doesn't say to Boonchu as she is afraid he will not let her visit their son in Chiang Mai. Meanwhile Boonchu and his friends head to Chiang Mai. On the way they meet the same restaurant owner present in all previous movies opus. Director Kiet Kijcharouen’s talent is to handle well the gags and they are not seen as a patchwork of assembled jokes often seen in some other modern Thai comedies. Boonchu visits Chiang Mai night market with his friends but his wallet is stolen. The owner has some “Ong Bak” skills so he can avoid being caught. Finally a young and mysterious lady helps to catch him and gives back his wallet to Boonchu. Boonchu and Mo cannot meet Boonchoke on the following day as he has gone hiking in the forest with his friend Mor. They face some wild animal smugglers. Luckily a young lady called Champa help them. They release the animals. She is Chahom's sister and is also the one who helped Boonchu. Captured by the smugglers, they succeed to escape and meet again Boonchoke’s parents. On the following day Champa learns that the smugglers plan to cut an one hundred years tree in the forest. She decide to oppose again. Boonchu and his son go also as Champa helped them before. During the arguments (Thai generations heritage protection versus immediate money) with the ruffians, Boonchu is shot in the chest. A sad song of life is played (คนดีของไทย) as Boonchu is seriously injured. The movie finally ends happily, i.e. the tree is saved, ruffians captured, Boonchu recovers and is very happy to learn that he is going to be a father a second time. As usual with Boonchu movies, there are many good feelings and messages regarding environment in this last opus.

This movie was forbidden to Thai people below 20 years old following the new rating system introduced in 2010. It is a mix of drama, comedy and mild erotic movie. There is never a full shooting of the Thai actresses as female stunts are used. It is far from being equivalent to Hong Kong "Sex and Zen" movies serie.

Brown sugar is a movie in two parts. It features short stories by six various new directors (ผู้กำกับเลือดใหม่). An uncut version was released in 2011. It is 18+ rated movie. First part features three short stories. The short stories speak about feelings or desires (ความปรารถนา) that are in deep inside and cannot always been expressed. The theme about sex and love is also discussed. The movie start with an introduction related to a lonely married lady going to a remote resort. She is looking for a friend to talk with about her unfaithful husband (เจ้าชู้) and complains about men, who can have sex without love (ใช้อารมณ์ ) but women need love feelings. A male resort employee helps her to get back esteem into herself. The three short stories then start. 1) น้อง Da, university student, has a lover called Korn, much older than her. Korn's mother always calls him and becomes a nuisance in their relationship. Da is very sexy and is admired by all men. It starts like a minor wife relationship but she finally becomes his real wife. This story is about the sexist myth to have a wife skillful in the kitchen and on the bed. 2) On Khaosan Road, Som is working in a traditional massage shop. She is attracted by a young man working in a tattoo shop near her shop. One day the young man comes for a massage. Being frustrated and having the young man’s odor on her, she gives pleasure to herself. There was much talk in Thai 2010 newspapers about this 10 minutes masturbation scene. She finally visits him to get a tattoo. This short story is about missed opportunities between both of them as nobody dares to speak despite having inner feeling and desires. 3)

The movie start with an introduction related to a man breaking up with his girlfriends as soon as they start asking about his whereabouts. 1) Two women are back from shopping. There are close friends. The brother is blind. They have a hate and love relationship. Their feelings are peeped since childhood. This episode is relying on lot on sensual sounds. 2) A young man called Lek goes back home as his aunt has just died. He meets a young lady called Nit, who looks like his aunt before. There is a mix of a souvenirs between the past and the present, between his feeling for his aunt and for Nit. Lek was in love with his aunt and got his first experience with her. She was beaten by a thug due to some debts so he tried to protect her. 3) Kaew’s boyfriend has always good excuses for being late. He is living in his own world. Kaew is quite strict as they are not yet married so they cannot sleep together. The pace of the third episode is very slow, i.e. letting wondering the viewers if Kaew will really fall for her boyfriend or not.
