Everywhere in Thailand street shops sell Thai music by promoting it at high volume! In 2000 prices are around 105 Baht for a tape, a CD is around about 250 Baht. VCD Karaoke are also very popular. Pirate music can also be found at cheap price.

So in 2001, the country's two largest entertainment companies (Grammy Entertainment and RS Promotion) cut prices on music and movie media to undercut the pirates. To fight back, they dropped prices from around 300 baht per music album or soap opera, to about 150-160 baht -- roughly what the pirates charge.
