Wat Sai Kung is another Thai Buddhist temple located in Sai Kung area.
Local white-robed laywomen can stay in the Thai Buddhist temple a few days such
as four days and three nights.
During those days, they listen to the monks' sermon, study Buddhism, meditate and also help to take care about the temple surroundings.
In local tradition, "PHA KHAW" (ชีปะขาว)
or MAE PHRAM (แม่พรามณ์)
are either laymen or laywomen who observe five or eight precepts.
Offerings to monks (ถวายพระ) are happening
in Thai Buddhist temple in Sai Kung.
Today is the special day. Many monks are present and many Thai people
are offering food.
Delicious food is brought by local HK and Thai people. Food
is placed on multiple tables.
Once the Buddhist sermon is over, everybody can enjoy the delicious
Thai food.
There is only one monk in Wat Sai Kung. He is then also the abbot of
Wat Sai Kung (พระอาจารย์).
Luang Pho can speak Thai, English and basic Cantonese.
Many local Thai people flock to the Thai Buddhist temple as it is an auspicious day.
The Sala for Buddhist sermons is too small to welcome everybody so many people
has to put a cloth on the soil in order to sit around the building.
Young and old people are present on this auspicious day.
Wat Sai Kung only hosts one monk but for this auspicious day, monks
from other Thai temples in Hong Kong are also joining.
It is opportunity for Thai people to perform ตักบาตร
or "TAK BAT" ceremony, i.e. means giving alms to monks.
The delicious Thai Food is placed on numerous temporary stalls.
