The Scala theater is currently Bangkok's oldest single-screen cinema.
The theater has around 900 seats.

that Chulalongkorn University shall spend a huge amount of money to develop a new shopping mall
on the plot that now houses Scala Theatre in Siam Square.
In year 2012 Chulalongkorn University
assured that there was no immediate plan to demolish the Scala theater.
The Scala theater got an award for architectural preservation
by the "Association of Siamese Architects". It was presented by the Thai Royal Family in
year 2012.
In year 2013 the Scala theater has finally also upgraded its projection
system to digital.

Due to Covid-19 outbreak in year 2020, The Scala theater
had to close in March 2020 due to avoid germ spread. Finally in June 2020, The Scala theater announced it would
stop movie showing operation due to high financial losses. It is unclear if another company would take over.
