There are many different houses ("BAAN" - บ้าน) style in Thailand depending on the area. Thailand is divided into four main area : North, Northeast, Central, South. Each area has its own architectural aspects.
In Bangkok there are large "CONDOMINIUMS"
(คอนโดมิเนียม), i.e. buildings with
many flats. Those building often include guardians, swimming pool and small
shops such as laundry, restaurant, barber and so on...

In 1999,
developers starved for both cash and credit have abandoned 364
unfinished buildings in Bangkok. Some have become magnets for crime,
and all are deteriorating to the point they will need major renovations
simply to complete them. The skeletons of dead construction projects
reflect overbuilding by developers, a key cause of the recession.
Like all modern cities, Bangkok features many huge shopping malls with
modern architecture. Siam Paragon, opened in 2005,
boasts to be a world class shopping and entertainment phenomenon.

There is an impressive wide choice of architectural buildings in Bangkok. Some beautiful, some ugly. More than 1000 skyscrapers can be found in Bangkok.
There are even some buildings, who have a shape representing an elephant, a robot
and a pencil.

Many nice houses can be found on the shores on
the river "CHAYO PRAYA" and its numerous canals in Bangkok.
The best way to discover them is rent a boat and
visit slowly Bangkok canals
("KHLONG" - คลอง).

There are still some beautiful houses made of teak wood. The most
famous one can be seen in Bangkok. It is
Jim Thompson's house near Siam Square.

and its canals in Bangkok. These houses are built on poles to prevent
the periodic inundations.

When visiting floating markets, it is always possible to rent boats or join
a boat trip along the neighbouring rivers. There are always beautiful houses, either
traditional or modern, to be seen along the river shores.

Such houses near canal or river have always a private pier. Before a huge road
network was available, rowing boats through canals was the main way to travel.

villa with Greek style statues. These palatial suburban estate
