Kat O, also known as Crooked Island, is located in the northeastern part of the New territories, north of the Sai Kung peninsula.

Kat O is an island located in the Restricted Area of Hong Kong. This area was a kind of tampon between Mainland China and Hong Kong in order to spot more easily the illegant immigrants.

This restricted area was created in 1960s decade. During years 2012 and 2013, the size of the restricted area was reduced and more villages were opened for public access.

Normally the easiest way to access to Kat O is to go from Sha Tau Kok pier. As Sha Tau Kok is located in the Restricted Area, it is not possible to take ferries from there.

The current only way is to go through group tours booking and to take a boat from Ma Liu Shui pier near University MTR station.

The ferry goes to Kat O Mun though a two hours journey. It is going through Tolo harbour and passing by Crescent Island and Double Island.

Kat O island is famous for its rocks and preserved biological structures.

Some tour groups often drop by some hiking fans in remote parts of the island for challenging hikes include rock climbing.

Kat O island is very close to Shenzhen, Mainland China. Big container docks and cranes can be seen easilty from Kat O island.

Kat O is a former fishermen island. Many old houses can still be seen in the main village called Tung O.

Kat O is still an active area with many houses still inhabitated. The area is a bit busy during the week-end with tourists coming from Hong Kong. Some local restaurants are catering for those tourists with delicious dishes including seafood.

In the past, Kat O was a very busy fishermen village and has a population of 500 inhabitants.

A big part of the population immigrated to the land in search of better job opportunities. Most of the houses are from decades 1950s~1960s being a height before the migration.

Kat O Tin Hau temple is about 250 years old. It was recently renovated and features colorful architecture.

Inside the Tin Hau temple, there are in fact two Tin Hau statues. One is a static statue and the other is a smaller one which is brought outside the temple on the birthday of Tin Hau every year.

Kat O's Tin Hau temple is very active during the Da Chiu decennary festival. Last celebration was in year 2006.

Many old houses on Kat O island were built during 1950s and 1960s decades.
