Sai Ying Pun is before the western end of Sai Wan on the Hong Kong Island.

Sai Ying Pun is still a traditional district but for how long. There were still some old shophouses but many of them have already been wiped out.

The Hong Kong island MTR line has been extended up to Kennedy Town. There is now a MTR station in Sai Ying Pun since year 2015.

Many changes are happening in Sai Ying Pun district. Many new huge towers are built such as residential buildings or hotels. As the MTR is now reaching Kennedy Town so many areas close to MTR stations have been redeveloped.

Still some old houses could be found in Sai Ying Pun. With the new MTR station, they may have already disappeared as many hotel projects are in the pipeline.

Some local neighbours complain that Sai Ying Pun is becoming another SoHo now.

New hotel in construction in Sai Ying Pun district. Such hotels may drive traditional shops out of business as the rent goes up in the area.

In year 2011, Sheung Wan MTR station was temporary closed in order to perform the junction with the new line going up to Kennedy Town.
