Today, Central is well known for its famous buildings such as IFC, HSBC Bank, The Center and also entertainment places such as SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong for bars and restaurants. But Central still includes some old buildings that are under redevelopment threat.
Victoria Prison and the former Central Police Station are being considered for
commercial use.

The Central Police Station Complex site was earmarked for tourism-related restoration
and development in 2003, but due to public objections the government
has delayed its decision.
Many local people claim that the compound should be kept in its original state and not
turned into another supplementary shopping mall housed in an old building.

A 2005 poll of showed that more than 90 per cent of respondents wanted the
Central Police Station Complex to become a public museum.

the Central Magistracy, is a declared monument. It does not face demolition.

The site was originally developed in 1864, but new blocks were added between 1910 and 1925. It covers 17 buildings that include the Central Police Station, Victoria Prison and the Central Magistracy.
This historic compound on Hollywood Road, comprising the former Central
Police Station, magistrates' court and Victoria Prison were all built in the mid-19th century.

The Police Headquarters was constructed in year 1919
and evokes a late Victorian style.

This old pawn shop (year 1940) is similar to many old-fashioned
shops in Wan Chai built following
Lingnan architecture. Attached to the second storey from the pavement, numerous pillars were built
in front of the closed stores.
