NAKHON PATHOM

Buddhist temple Wat Phailom (วัดไผ่ล้อม) is located in Nakhon Pathom centre.

Beautiful embellishment is ongoing at Wat Phailom in year 2011.

The former abbot Luang Pho Poon (หลวงพ่อพูล) is a famous dedicated monk.

Luang Pho Poon's corpse is still not rotten. He made Wat Phailom famous and developed it by using rightly donations.

Amulets based on Luang Pho Poon are famous and well looked after for protection against car accidents or injuries.

Buddhist temple Wat Phailom is very beautiful and even includes a Guan Yin (Goddess of Compassion) statue.

There is also a Nang Takhian shrine. A certain spirit is often associated to a certain type of tree. Famous spirits are นางตะเคียน or "NANG TAKHIAN" are located in hopea odorata trees.

Wat Phailom is often part about Buddhist trips called "WAI PHRA 9 WAT" (ไหว้พระ9วัด).

Other famous local Buddhist temples in Nakhon Pathom and part of those daily trips include Wat Don Yai Hom, Wat Phra Pathom Chedi, Wat Phailom, Wat Sri Sa Tong, Wat Bang Phra, Wat Rai King...

Buddhist Temples need to be part of such a ring - "WAI PHRA 9 WAT" (ไหว้พระ9วัด) to get donations and money from people outside their area.

Abbots need to organize temple fairs with stands, fireworks, likay, outdoor movies to have people visit the temple and make donations. "Bamrung wat" (บำรุงวัด) means to enrich / maintain the temple.

Some abbots want peace and silence so may not organise fair inside their temples. Unfortunately some cases of bad abbots abusing money donations (กินเงินวัด) have been seen before. Money from donation boxes or from temple fair is on purpose underestimated!

Some bad abbots might stay until they are expelled by villagers or until they disrobe to use the money they dishonestly saved.

Luang Pho Poon is famous and kind hearted monk. He was famous for making amulets for devotees. Luang Pho Poon passed away in year 2005.

The ordination hall and assembly hall in Wat Phailom are beautifully decorated and are worth a visit. The temple is quite close to Phra Pathom Chedi, which is Nakhon Pathom's main touristic attraction.

Luang Pho Poon is also well known for having done many charitable works such as building schools and hospitals with money donations.

Sometimes in front the ordination hall's entrance, there is a couple of "YAK" (ยักข์), which are huge statues representing giants with big teeth. Those "YAK" are supposed to frighten the spirits or demons who would like to enter the ordination hall.

Luang Pho Poon (หลวงพ่อพูล) from Wat Phailom in Nakhon Pathom can easily be found on websites regarding Buddha amulets collectors.
