ทำบุญขึ้นบ้านใหม่ or "THAM BOON KEUN BAAN MAI" is a ceremony for house-warming.
It is evening time. Buddhist monks have finished their sermon and are already
back to the temple. It is time for joyful celebration.
The home owner has invited his relatives and his neighbours.
Many round tables have been prepared. Festive lights are on and the
stage is ready to welcome music orchestra.
Traditional Thai music is even played before the dinner starts.
The dinner has started and a few countryside music singers appear
on the stage.
Such house-warming ceremony is a key event mixing Buddhist ceremony
and laic ceremony.
A few paper floating lanterns (ลอยโคมไฟ)
are released into the night sky.
It is auspicious act at end of the year to release such paper floating
lanterns as it symbolizes the bad sins flying away.
A wish shall be performed before releasing the colorful floating lantern.
Another famous event in Thailand taking place in Chiang Mai is Loy Krathong.
The event also called "YI PENG" (ลอยโคมยี่เป็ง) festival
includes the release of thousands of paper floating lanterns into the night sky all over the city.
Such floating lanterns release is also popular in Thai Buddhist temple
on New Year's eve.
The dinner features many Thai delicious dishes such as Tom Yam Kung soup
or fried rice.
Countryside singers and orchestra is bringing good mood to all dinner participants.
People are giving an envelope with money inside as a gift.
The house owner shall write the amount for each family. When going to
other people events, he shall give back the same amount.
The party shall continue until late during the evening. When dinner is over,
most people are leaving.
